What is SSL (Secure Socket Layer)

SSL is a security protocol developed by Netscape for providing safety and privacy during information transfer.
In 1996, by the creation of 3.0 version, it has become a standard supported by all the internet explorers (Microsoft Explorer, Netscape Navigator etc) and has got great application areas. SSL ensures that the information definitely and only deciphers in the correct address. The information enciphers automaticly before it is sent and can only be deciphered by the right receiver. By confirming on both sides, the privacy and the completeness of the work and the information is being kept. The power of encode method used for data inflow, depends on the key l length. The length of the key is very important for keeping the information safe. For example, it’s very easy to decode a transmitter of 8 bit. Bit means a number in binary system. One bit can have 2 different values as 0 or 1. 8 bits include only 28=256 possible different keys. A computer can scan these 256 possibilities by orders and get to a conclusion. On SSL protocol, 40 bits and 128 bits of code is being used. There are 2128 different keys on 128 bit of code and it takes a lot of money and time to decode this code. A vicious person needs to spend 1 million dollars and 67 years to decode a 128 bit of code. As we can understand from this example SSL security system gives a whole and exact safety.
